Bunch of the Month: Mother’s Day Florals
What better way to say a big thank you to mum than to treat her to a beautiful bunch of hand-picked florals? They’re a stunning, fresh addition for her home, and a nice way to have her feeling special the whole week through.
I love experimenting with colours and textures, and Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to try something new that combines bold colours with unconventional floral varieties.
Roses are always a popular choice for mums, come in a wide range of colours and sizes, and have the most delicate scent. They’re a great way to fill out a large bunch and work well in conjunction with the quirky fillers we’ve chosen to include.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s in this bunch:
RED AND MAGENTA COLOMBIAN ROSES
Perfect for a special occasion, this type of rose is cultivated amongst some of the world’s best rose-growing conditions in the Colombian mountains. I love using the Colombian rose because they tend to last longer than our local roses. I’ve chosen to include rich red and magenta hues, but these are so beautiful that it won’t matter which colour of rose you pick.
These are a stunning garden rose with large rosettes and cup-shaped flowers. With a beautiful scent and unique colouring, they almost seem to ‘light up’ when combined with autumn tones and delicate foliage.
QUEEN ANNE’S LACE
Although sometimes considered a weed, Queen Anne’s lace is a visually stunning, native wildflower herb and an interesting substitution for the usual baby’s breath. The miniature white flowers resemble fine lace and adds some character to the bunch.
FLOWERING VIBURNUM FOLIAGE
New into season at this time of year, Viburnum foliage adds deep lush greenery to this bunch along with autumnal tones in the flowering bud.
I’ve never met somebody who doesn’t love carnations, and these beauties are both striking and long-lasting. They add an amazing depth of colour and complement this bunch perfectly. Carnations need a little bit of time to open so make sure you get them a few days early to ensure they’re in full bloom when you give them to mum!
Covered in a showy white powder, this striking greenery balances the depth of green tones and creates height in the look.
