The Grounds of Alexandria, our original location established in 2012, is one of Sydney’s favourite hospitality destinations. It boasts our famous Grounds Cafe, our restaurant The Potting Shed, our iconic Garden Bar & BBQ, and fabulous themed installations which draw people from all over Sydney and the world. The Grounds of Alexandria is also home to an array of unique private event spaces, hosting everything from intimate gatherings to weddings and corporate events.

GETTING HERE
Not sure of the best way to get where you’re going? With close proximity to public transport modes and parking options, we’ve got you covered.
TRAIN & BUS
The closest train stations are Green Square (10 – 15 minute walk), St Peters (20 minute walk) and Waterloo (20 minute walk), all with frequent services to and from the CBD. Bus stops outside The Grounds of Alexandria have regular services to Redfern, Mascot, Wolli Creek and Randwick.
Route updates, timetables and travel information is available on the Transport for NSW website, or real-time travel apps.
TAXI & RIDESHARE
Taxis and Rideshare services (e.g. Uber, Didi, Ola, etc.) can drop off / pick up on Huntley Street.
Set the destination as The Grounds of Alexandria, or our street address (7a/2 Huntley Street, Alexandria NSW 2015).
Parking at The Grounds
Onsite parking is available on a first-come first-served basis. To access our onsite car park, enter via 2 Huntley Street (behind our Cafe). Disabled-access parking is available onsite. Due to limited capacity on weekends and during holiday periods, please allow extra time if you are driving, or consider public transport options.
We will always do our best to prioritise the elderly and those with mobility difficulties, but cannot always guarantee a space as our car park can fill up quickly.
Please note that our car park is exclusively reserved for customers of The Grounds and guests attending a private event hosted at The Grounds. A 2 hour time limit is temporarily in place for parking during the day.
Other Parking Options
Street parking in the surrounding area can generally be found within a 10 – 15 minute walk – please ensure you comply with any timing or parking restrictions. Some good places to check include Huntley Street, Burrows Road and Maddox Street.
Paid parking options can also be found within a short walk of The Grounds.

What is The Grounds of Alexandria?
We’re a cafe, restaurant and event complex that specialises in creating memorable moments, and has over the years become famous for our iconic garden setting and themed installations. We offer dine-in reservations at our Cafe and our restaurant (The Potting Shed), takeaway from the Cafe and our Garden BBQ kiosk, and private dining experiences such as high teas and banquet feasts. We frequently host school holiday workshops and activities too!
Do I Need a Ticket or Booking to Visit?
To visit The Grounds, you just need to be a customer of one of our venues, or attending an event here. We always encourage making a booking at our venues if you’re wanting to dine in, but we also accept walk-ins daily, with a waiting list kept at the door. Bookings for smaller groups can be made online where available – for larger groups, please contact our friendly reception team.
Please note that we usually do not accept same-day reservations during peak periods or weekends.
Why is entry restricted to customers only?
Over the years we have loved putting on special events and creating elaborate displays for our customers. As we are a dining precinct and not a public space, we are limiting access to our displays exclusively to our customers to ensure they get the best experience when they visit.
While this has always been something that we have requested visitors keep in mind, it is a policy that we actively implement during peak periods (such as Christmas).
What venues are at The Grounds of Alexandria?
There’s no chance of going hungry when you visit! We have The Grounds of Alexandria Cafe serving breakfast and lunch, and The Potting Shed serving lunch and dinner. Then there’s the Garden Bar & BBQ, providing takeaway all day long, plus our donut cart and lemonade stand!
Themes at The Grounds
Our themed display is set up in the laneways between The Cafe and The Potting Shed. Our laneways are open to all Grounds customers dining in, purchasing takeaway or attending an event.
After 4:00pm, access to this display area becomes exclusive to guests dining in at The Potting Shed (our onsite restaurant), or attending a private event at one of our venues. Please note that during peak periods a minimum spend may apply when dining in.
When visiting, you’re more than welcome to walk around to take photos, but please note that we do not allow professional photo or video shoots within the laneways.
Can I host an event at The Grounds?
Absolutely! Our Events service has grown to be one of Sydney’s premier providers for weddings, corporate events and social celebration. We have a variety of one-of-a-kind function & event spaces that cater to groups of different sizes and tastes – for more information, contact our Events team here.
Do You Offer Takeaway?
Yes! If you’re visiting The Grounds during the day and you don’t want to wait, we offer takeaway from our Cafe and Garden BBQ, which you can eat in our beautiful garden takeaway area. You can also order takeaway ahead of time with The Grounds App.
Can I Bring My Dog?
Absolutely! We love dogs and welcome them in most areas of The Grounds of Alexandria, including the Garden and The Potting Shed. When making a booking, please advise if you will be bringing your pooch and we will be sure to book you in the right seat.
When bringing your dog, please ensure they are on a leash or harness at all times, and seated on the floor of the venue when dining in.
