3 Festive Table Setting Ideas
Decking the halls or the dining room? These dazzling table settings are perfect for the festive season.
How is it this time of year already!? If you’re searching for simple yet effective ideas to make your Chrissy table stand out, I have you covered with three festive table settings to inspire your holiday styling!
CHRISTMAS LUXE
CHRISTMAS LUXE
Up first is our Christmas Luxe look – it’s sophisticated, chic, and begins with a simple foundation. We’ve opted for a marble table, but if you’re working with a different table top, you can simply use a white tablecloth to create a light, fresh base. Gone are the days of cutlery only being available in silver hardware – metals are having a big moment and for this look we’ve chosen matte copper cutlery as an accent piece. We’ve layered these over linen napkins with a gold thread accent to tie the look together and carry the metallic theme throughout the setting.
Our table runner was created by laying gold branches from Silva’s Florist at The Grounds down the centre of the table. To recreate this at home, simply take a can of gold spray paint to some branches in your backyard! On any table, height and texture are vital – vintage candle holders with candle sticks, christmas baubles or decorative lanterns are an effective way to incorporate this without over-crowding the table. When creating height with your centrepieces, it’s important not to go to high so as to block your guests’ view of one another.
HERITAGE CHRISTMAS
Inspired by the Traditional British Christmas, we’ve created a trailing green centerpiece using berries, pinecones, vintage silver candelabra sticks and red candles. The key to this look is keeping it as ‘Christmassy’ as possible – the more red and green, the better!
We’ve used a traditional red tartan tablecloth (hint: it’s a piece of material from Spotlight), with tartan napkins – don’t be afraid to layer and clash pattern on pattern. If you have vintage or crystal cut glassware, there’s never been a better time to polish it up – a full set of glassware is a staple in a traditional setting. Don’t forget water glasses, wine glasses and champagne glasses of course – it’s a celebration (and that calls for abundance)!
Home-made swing tags on the napkins add a personal touch and will make your guests feel especially welcome at the table. We’ve added mini pinecones, berries and christmas decorations to make it even more festive – you can grab these straight from your Chrissy tree.
QUIRKY CHRISTMAS DINNER
The best Christmas table settings, in my opinion, contain pattern and texture. This is our take on a fresh, playful dinner party – it’s bold, fun and a bit quirky. It’s festive with a red and silver theme, made contemporary with polkadot napkins and bonbons. With the additional set of cutlery, the table is set for three courses and we’ve used a red charger plate beneath a white frilled bowl to make the place settings a focal point.
Mixing and matching contemporary and vintage tableware can look impressive. We’ve used trays to group items both for aesthetics and functionality. For example, we’ve placed Christmas ornaments onto antique silver trays so they can be easily be removed when the Christmas feast arrives! Ornaments add texture and height to the table – here we’ve used silver birds, spray painted metallic leaves and baubles straight from the tree.
Remember to have fun with your table settings. Christmas is about good company, food, wine and conversation. The most important part is that you feel like you’re part of the celebration, not just the host!
