5 tips for creating valentines day ambience at home
Valentine’s Day can be an extravagant time, where you go all out for the one you think is a little bit of alright. You can drop some serious cash on this fiasco, but it’s safe to say the dollar doesn’t always match the romance. I’m a sucker for something that shows some thought was put into it. I always love to put a personalised touch to special occasions, whether it be Christmas, a birthday or Valentine’s day; to let the recipient know that I care.
Here I’ve listed my 5 tips for creating a romantic ambience at home. Keep it casual, you don’t want to go down the normal route of a fancy or stiff dinner. Put some of your own style into it. Nothing has to be perfect and that’s what the girl/guy will love about it.
1. Setting the Mood
Lighting is super important. Opt for a low light, preferably warm with a yellow tone. A lot of the newer lights emit a blue light which tends to make things feel cold and uninviting so stay away from these ones. For a little extra scene setting, try and hang some lanterns. Small candles on the table placed in a few different jar styles is a cute touch and show’s some thought was put into the table setting.
2. Flowers are important
Try something different and don’t go for the usual flowers, although roses are always nice. For something different, make floral runners in between candles on the table and accompany it with greenery from your backyard – it doesn’t need to cost a lot. Go for colours like red, pink and peach; although the usual colour palette of Valentine’s Day, they are the colours of love and give meaning to what you are doing.
3. Think about your serve ware
Put together items which are mismatched to give it a more eclectic look which will again help to move you away from a structured and stiff Valentine’s Dinner. Get a little adventurous and use vintage plates and odd retro style glasses.
4. Garnishing Food and Beverage
Little garnishes go a long way; adding extra fresh berries and strawberries etc. into water glasses or cocktails for the evening shows more attention to detail. For an extra special touch – placing a few edible flowers on the meal will add vibrancy and colour.
5. Focus on them
As much as girls say they don’t want anything, when you focus on them, even just something small is always nice. Naturally, compliment your date on their appearance and take notice of the smaller things. This will get you brownie points for later on.
So, go get ‘em guys! Make this Valentine’s Day your own, bring your own flavour and add your own touch.
