After a full year in the big smoke, we’re gearing up to kick off our birthday celebrations for The Grounds of the City next Thursday 21st June. We’ve got a few exciting things in store, including a golden installation out front that will make for a real insta-worthy moment you won’t want to miss. We’re also offering something special when you make a reservation for dinner with us, so once you’re finished with our little trip down memory lane, head over here to check out what’s in store.
Let’s take it back to the beginning – the day we revealed the space and welcomed you in. What a day! After three years of dedicated efforts, working with the team from ACME to bring our haven away from the city rush to life, we were ecstatic to finally have you join us. To all of you who have taken a seat at The Barista’s Bar and talked all things coffee with our baristas, reclined in a booth and chatted to our tea lady or just simply slowed down amid your busy day to simply be social again, we owe you one big thank you! From the entire Grounds family, we’re beyond appreciative of your support and wouldn’t have been able to do it without you (or had a reason to either).
One of our favourite things about our new city way of life takes place on a Monday evening where we close the restaurant down and invite you in for a little ‘us’ time.
It’s where we get to teach you about something incredibly passionate about – coffee, during our tasting masterclasses. During the year we also started a new series in partnership with General Assembly, who are the coolest cats (read: key leaders) in the digital education space, and we ecstatic to be able to bring you a new way to learn something new and get ahead. We’ve been hosting monthly ‘ask me anything’ style chats, and to date have welcomed industry leaders including the Co-founder of Canva, the design team from ACME, our Grounds Roastery coffee experts. Up next we have total girl boss, Christy Laurence, the founder of Plann coming in to talk all things Instagram and how to create the perfect feed.
Over the course of the year, our amazing guests have shared some pretty beautiful photos capturing their experiences. It’s incredible to see your creative touches and to experience The City from your point of view. There are thousands of photos that we adore, here are just a few of our faves:

Another favourite touch of ours (wait, how many favourites are we allowed to have?) are all the moments we’ve simply slowed down and settled in with a cup of coffee and slice of cake fresh from the trolley. It’s never an easy choice with so many fresh, delicious pastries on offer, but we’ve found it to be the perfect excuse to go back and chat to the tea lady again and again.
We couldn’t get enough of you guys so we recently decided to open our doors for dinner, too!
Our talented Executive Chef, Paul McGrath, introduced a new all-day style menu that starts at 11:45am daily (after his new delicious brekkie menu finishes) and carries through until late from Tuesday-Sunday. If you need to unwind after a busy day, check out of the office and into The City for a meal and a cheeky cocktail (or two).
A few other notable moments include having international chef, Marco Pierre White, surprise us for dinner one night, and that we’ve served over half a million coffees in the last 12 months, which looking back seems pretty crazy! But the best part is we can’t wait to do it all again for you in the years and years to come. We’d absolutely love to celebrate with you next week! Be sure to check out everything that’s going on here.
From the whole entire Grounds family,
Thank you and see you soon!
